*DINK*

Austin Film Festival contest shows no love to your intrepid narrator, dinking me this year in the first round.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to give up senseless fits of pointless violence....

Simply ignore them.

Not all people can see the magic beyond the page.

Perhaps, but sometimes the critics are right. While the script in question has a lot to like and be proud of, the particular draft entered into this contest is not the best draft possible, so it would be rather pompous for me to take much umbrage at this dismissal.

This one might improve over time. Then again, it might not.

Either way, onwards.

I haven't seen/read/heard anything. How did you know?

Ketters went out earlier this week. A lot of folks have reported word arriving in the mail. I got my "thank you for playing" letter today.

Woohoo.

Beer me.

Hi, just wondering where you got those great progress bars over on the left?

Looking to add them to forum signatures to help some aspiring writers to keep motivated and have been searching to html code for something like this :)

ANy help most welcome

Those progress bars are CSS code based upon similar I stole -- err, "was inspired by" == over at David Anaxagoras's blog (which he seems to have redesigned and which now doesn't seem to have the progress bars!).

Mine were heavily massaged and tweaked to give me the color coding, as well as some other subtle changes and (IMO) improvements.

Drop me an email -- I'll see if I can figure out a simple but clear way to deliver a copy of the actual code. Blogger wrecks the formatting everytime I try to show it here in a post.

My dink notice arrived yesterday, and I've seen quite a few folks on the boards discussion dinks and advances.

It's not that the advance really would have a tremendous amount of added value relative to the "regular" conference (well, I guess WINNING might...), but still, rejection and rebukage in any of its myriad forms still sucks to some degree.

Ok, I got mine today. Denied! They actually mentioned that I should shove my script up my ass, which I thought was harsh.

Patrick, as long as they don't suggest specific instruments with which to perform the shoving, you're okay.

Wow, your honesty in evaluating your work, Brett, is intreaging. You don't hear a lot of that...

Oh well, you were like a Nicholl's Finalist last year weren't you? Did that exposure help your career?

I have a file folder of every rejection I've every gotten. Whenever I have a victory, I open up that folder and laugh at the people who didn't know what they were missing.
